Hello good folks,
Due to popular request here is the first official CELL update!
Please note- our new mission statement is attached, and the email address for CELL is localize@mcn.org
What's on our plate now-
In a move to raise awareness of Peak oil and the very direct affect this will bear on our community we have been showing the "End of Suburbia: oil depletion and the collapse of the American dream" from Fort Bragg to Pt.Arena during the last 2 months We accompany the movie with a short presentation of who/what CELL is and a discussion period to 'de-stress' issues brought up by the movie, and to explore and ignite solutions. The next showings of "End..." will be at 'the Woods' in Little River on Nov.7th at 7P.M, this showing is open to the public, for more info email us or call 937-4961. Another showing (date still pending) is being organized for the Albion neighborhood and will take place at the Albion school. We are looking for a power point to allow this showing, if you can provide this or would like more info. email or call 937-0936.
If you would like to learn more about this film, organize your own home/neighborhood showing, or get involved in current showings please contact us . Postcarbon.org also has movie info. This film really helps people to understand what peak oil means and what is rapidly coming down the line. We have provided copies for the Ft. Bragg Library, Mendocino library and Mendo Video and have personal copies circulating as well.
Our next event in partnership with the Alliance for Democracy will be the Alternative Energy Forum on Dec.2nd. We will have three speakers-Steve Heckeroth renewable energy expert, Ken Smokoska from the Sierra club and Don Dame from the NCPA Northern California Power Agency. The main focus of the event will be around localizing the generation and distribution of power on the coast!! We will learn about Community Choice Aggregation (becoming/owning our own utilities) renewable energy generation and what it will take to make this a reality for our community. In this vein please tune into the Ecology Hour on KZYX Tues. Nov.15th 7-8P.M on which we will discuss these issues. For more info call 937-0788 or email CELL.
There is much on-going work if you are interested in finding a place to join in, add on or need assistance on a community project please contact our project point people
